Emily & Daniel

Emily and Dan have the most beautiful love story, and they kindly allowed me to share it with you:

We met by chance – one in a million – back in 2005. We were both in London; Daniel was back from Australia for a one–week visit, and I had just arrived in London the day before for a three–month university placement and trip to Europe. It was a chilly winter’s day, and we had both set out on a morning wander around London – Dan on a little sightseeing walk through his hometown, and me on a mission to find pillows and sheets for my flat!

As we both went about our business, we happened to end up at a pedestrian crossing on the corner of Trafalgar Square, where we both stood waiting for the lights to change. All of a sudden out of nowhere a huge gust of wind came along, blowing everything in its path at us. As we emerged from a cloud of leaves and rubbish, we looked across at each other and laughed! A moment later, the lights changed, and together we crossed the road. We started chatting and soon realised that we were both spending the morning wandering around the city, so we decided to walk together a while and Dan offered to show me the way to Oxford Street and its abundant supply of pillow and sheet stores. And so we walked… and walked… and walked. We soon realised that Daniel had gotten us hopelessly lost on a detour through the streets of Chinatown. We eventually made it to Oxford Street and parted ways, agreeing to catch up again.

It didn’t take long, and we met each other the following evening, and the day after, and the day after that… for a week. Dan introduced me to his brother and best mate. After a week, Daniel had to return to Australia, so we sadly parted ways and agreed to keep in touch via email. And that we did.

For the next few months we emailed each other daily, often with funny little stories from Dan, and silly anecdotes of my travels around London. In those months, I spent a lot of time with his family and friends, and even spent a few weekends with Dan’s family in Hertfordshire. By the time I saw Dan again on my return to Australia, I had spent more time with his family and friends than we had together! And so began our year of long–distance love; with frequent flights between my hometown and our new one, and Dan’s introduction to the my family.

Needless to say, our special connection remained, and in November 2005 we moved in together to start the next chapter of our lives together. The years continued, filled with happy times, much silliness, and always laughter. In October 2009, on a trip to Tasmania, Dan proposed up amongst the snow and clouds at Cradle Mountain. We began excitedly planning the next adventure of our lives – ‘Project Wedding’!

We have enjoyed every part of the process, and have continued to stay true to the sentiment of our wedding and of our love for one another. We have had a rather magical beginning, and look forward to an equally magical next chapter as we begin our life as a married couple, and a new family.”

I truly cannot express how wonderful this celebration was; full of love, laughter and the most unbelievable joy.
The day was an honour and a privilege and I am thrilled to have been invited to share it all.
Thank you, Emily and Dan, for everything!
